Family-friendly sailing from Brindisi in Puglia

Stunning Baroque towns, crystal-clear seas to unwind, caves to explore and arguably home to the country’s best Gelato- that’s Puglia, “the heel of the boot”. It gets super hot in summer to vacations on the peninsula are all about the sea. Like the entire Italian coastline, the best beaches are almost always paid (lido) and packed so when you’re ready for a break from the crowds but don’t want to part with the sea, sailing is the perfect solution.

I recently spent an afternoon with Mario and his crew on board the Primadonna Floating Lounge. They are based in Brindisi and had tailored a sailing experience to suit my clients who wanted to capture their time living in Italy. Lovers of sailing themselves- it only made sense to centre the photoshoot around that!

The entire experience with Primadonna Floating Lounge was very Puglian (aka. laid back!) and yet professional. The boat was immaculate, not always a guarantee when sailing, and the priority of the crew was clearly to ensure everyone on board had a great time.

It was a stormy winter’s day but we chose to go out regardless. While waiting for the worst to pass, Mario took the opportunity to give a sailing lesson to the teenagers on board and tailored the class to their level making it the perfect educational adventure for a family vacation.

Out of the harbour, I learned that I’m not built to be a sailor- and spent most of the time at sea trying not to vomit! The crew noticed right away and navigated the choppy sea to find the calmest path and when it was safe to do so, guided me to the deck to sit in the fresh air.

Don’t be put off by my weak stomach, the sea in summer is still and despite my nausea, it truly was a wonderful way to spend a day in Puglia!

You can find the guys on Facebook here, or check out their website (you’ll need to use Google translate, but they do speak enough English to take your sailing!)

P.S. I do not receive any commission for this blog post I just wanted to share my great experience with you all!
