Family-Friendly Cooking Class and photoshoot in Tuscany

If you ever want to initiate a passionate conversation (read: debate) among Italians at the dining table, simply ask “Which Italian region has the best food?”.

I proposed this question last Christmas Eve as we were enjoying aperitivo with my sister-in-law, and her husband Sandro, both proud Pugliese. The discussion escalated when my husband suggested that perhaps Campagna outranks Puglia thanks to Mozzarella di Buffala, Babá and of course, pizza. Sandro immediately stood out of his chair and began questioning how a Pugliese could say such a thing and soon enough we were all in stitches of laughter.

A passion for good food is really the centre of Italian culture and what better way to immerse yourself than a local cooking class? There are plenty of options to choose from in any city you may visit, but what can be hard is finding a class that is suitable for the youngest family members.

I recently photographed this family as they made fresh pasta in the family-friendly Tuscan Agriturismo, Al Gelso Bianco (which I also recommend for accommodation too). As you can see, the entire family got involved thanks to the wonderful teacher.

Cooking classes are a great activity to centre your vacation photoshoot around. They’re always fun and the photographs hanging in your dining room make for perfect conversation starters.

Plus like all the activities I suggest, a cooking class will allow you all to relax and be totally comfortable with the camera which enables the most beautiful, natural family portraits to be taken to showcase the local Italian backdrop to feature in other rooms in your home.

Al Gelso Bianco

Set among olive trees and vines, Al Gelso Bianco (The White Mulberry) is one of the very few truly family-friendly agriturismi in Tuscany, and maybe the only with luxury rooms. Spend a few nights, or pop in purely for their one-of-a-kind cooking classes- just be sure to book well in advance!
