Headshots and professional branding portraits in Tuscany

I recently had the pleasure of photographing some branding portraits for a local author who was looking for a headshot to feature in her upcoming book.

Over the phone Laura had told me “be prepared, I am not photogenic, in fact, I can’t be photographed”. I asked her more about that and with an understanding of her fears, began to design a photoshoot plan that would ensure it was a lovely morning together, and of course, that I showed her just how gorgeous she actually is!

Considering the book is all about Montalcino, that was the natural choice for the photoshoot location. It was essential for Laura that we captured her personality, along with her love of Tuscany and wine- without being too cliche!

Keeping Laura’s fears in mind and knowing our ultimate goal, we started with some silly photos down a side lane which protected us from an audience to help her warm up. From there we went for a little walk to help her relax further, stopping for extra photos along the way.

By now she was feeling quite at ease and so she was ready for the “headshots”- our primary goal, so we headed to the main location, a traditional-style bar. Here are some of the options she could choose from.

After achieving absolutely gorgeous portraits with that perfect backdrop and a now at-ease Laura, we then decided to add one more backdrop for variety, after all,I was already there so why not have some other images to use on social media too?

Here’s some of what Laura had to say about her experience.

“To say my expectations of this photo shoot were low would be an understatement. I have a history of being told that I am unphotogenic and do not enjoy being in the limelight. Usually pictures don't match what I think I look like... Well, this session was incredible. Not only do I have all the shots I could ever need for my professional purposes that I LOVE - but also we spent a really fun couple of hours together. I felt completely at my ease, Kirstie really intuitively seemed to understand what would work and gave great pointers regarding posture, outfit and poses that I would never have thought of. I cannot recommend her services highly enough - I am delighted with the results, beyond all expectations!”
